'Come on in!' Sumner unveils new marketing campaign

Jun 04 2008

The city of Sumner debuted its new branding campaign this past month at the Internation Conference of Shopping Centers annual convention in Las Vegas.

Using the tag line “Come on in!,” Sumner’s newest promotional effort is a tool kit of sorts to brand the city as a well-planned small town with a forward-thinking mindset.

Seeking to evoke emotions such as “effortless,” “charmed,” “safe,” “familiar” and “nostalgic,” the new toolbox offers a common thread to all businesses and advertising efforts around the city. The look and font of the new branding effort is intended to evoke a 1950’s nostalgia, straight down to the name of the font used: soda fountain, a wide, easy-to-read font the city hopes can be incorporated into other retailers’ ads.

When displayed for the first time in front of the city council, council members remarked that the font and look of the new logos reminded them of 1950s diner signs

Four new logos and four colors can be mixed and matched depending on the retailer and advertisement. The colors are relatively bright, but not overwhelming, offering a palette that includes maroon, sky blue, orange and olive.

The city hopes business owners will begin to incorporate the colors and logos into their ads, creating a city-wide branding campaign that links Sumner businesses to each other and the city.
