Sumner church celebrates 150 years
Jun 10 2008
The First Christian Church of Sumner honored 150 years of fellowship this past weekend with a celebration following their normal services.
Founded in 1858 in Steilacoom, the church moved to Sumner in 1863 and began meeting in a log school building near what is now Wood Avenue and East Main Street. In 1883 the church found a new home in their own building on the corner of Alder Avenue and Maple Street. In 1951 the church moved to it’s current location at Wood Avenue and Silver Street.
