The Sumner Senior Center not only offers services to residents 55 years old and older, but several activities and trips throughout the year.
Center guests can spend time relaxing and playing a game of cards, or may want to loosen up with a little line dancing. The center even offers tai chi.
For aspiring or experienced artists, the Mountain Valley Art Club meets at the center each month to share techniques and feedback on art pieces.
During the summer, the center hosted excursions to locations including the Lucky Eagle Casino, Ocean Shores, Gig Harbor, and Brady’s Annual Oyster Feed in Westport.
Upcoming trips are planned to Pike Place Market Sept. 23 and the Lucky Dog Casino in Shelton on Oct. 7.
The trip to Pike Place Market leaves at 10 a.m. and the fee is $10. The Lucky Dog Casino trip leaves at 9 a.m. and the fee is $9. To sign up for a trip, guests may contact trip coordinator Denise Schulz at the senior center.
The Meals on Wheels program delivers hot lunches to seniors who are at home recuperating from a hospital stay or sickness.
Anyone needing the service may call Lindy Kurtz, the meal site manager at the senior center. Meals are delivered for free, but a donation of $2 is suggested.
Another meal program is part of the Catholic Community Services, which serves meals at the senior center at 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday. Meals cost $5 for people who are under 60 years old and a donation of $2.50 is requested for people 60 years old and older.
To monitor health, free blood pressure checks are available, and a senior foot clinic helps people 60 years old or older with care for their feet. Once a month, the Good Samaritan Mobile Health Unit visits the center and provides health care services, information and immunizations.
The Sumner Senior Center is located at 15506 62nd St. Ct. E. The phone number is 253-863-2910.
