Free lunch program needs volunteers

Jun 29 2009

Volunteers are needed to help with the Buckley Youth Center’s summer lunch program.

Volunteers meet daily from 8 to approximately 11 a.m. at the Buckley Youth Center to help put lunches together and package them to go out to other sites. According to city of Buckley Recreation Services Director Jennifer Bacon, there is not an age requirement on volunteers, but they do need to have a food handler’s card. White River High School students needing to complete their community service hours or any other groups wanting to volunteer as a service project are encouraged to volunteer.

Volunteers can work entire weeks or certain days of the week.

The summer lunch program provides a free lunch to all those enrolled in school, Monday through Friday, until Sept. 4. Lunches are served between noon and 1 p.m.

The Summer Feeding Program has gotten off to a great start, Bacon said.

Alicia McArtor has been hired to run the program. Bacon said she is making about 150 lunches every morning and could use some extra hands.

To volunteer, or for information, contact McArtor at 360-829-6534.
