Arlington girls track has strong showing

SNOHOMISH — Despite their loss to Marysville in a three-team league meet April 16, the Arlington girls had a strong showing, especially on the field.

Winning almost all of the points for the high jump, the girls took first, third and both ends of a tie for fourth. Junior Virginia Wilson led with a jump of 5-00.

In the long jump, Wilson led the girls again with a first-place jump of 16-01 ¼. Teammate Melissa Webb followed, in second.

The girls’ skill carried over into the throwing events, as they won all three. Junior Marissa Elgarico led a sweep of the first four places in the shot put, also earning first place in discus with a personal record of 88-9. Sophomore Stephanie Van Slageren won the javelin with a mark of 109-6.

The Arlington boys did not fare as well, but still had impressive performances.

Freshman Max Bryson won the high jump with a mark of 6-06. Also a freshman, Blake McPherson won the javelin with 168-08, a distance that was almost 26 feet ahead of the second-place thrower.

In the 800, senior Sean Gregory took first with a time of 2:00.02. On his first try, sophomore James Clark won the 3,200 with a time of 10:21.40.
