Marysville Rotary raffles off '10 Camaro

EVERETT — Dave Edmonds didn't know what to think when his name was called during a recent raffle drawing.

"When they called my name I thought they were messing with me," said Edmonds, a financial services professional with the Smokey Point New York Life Insurance Company. "It was hard to believe."

Edmonds won a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro on Saturday, Nov. 14, during the annual Rotary Club of Marysville auction. He picked up his bright red sports car on Monday, Nov. 16.

The Camaro was donated by Roy Robinson Chevrolet President Gordon Bjorg.

Gayl Spilman, president-elect of the Rotary club and auction chair, said Rotary members sold approximately 5,000 raffle tickets during the months preceding the event.

As a result, about $50,000 was raised by the raffle. Proceeds go toward funding community programs and the club's education foundation, Spilman said.

The raffle and auction took place at the Everett Events Center.

Approximately 250 people attended the function, Spilman said.

"I was very pleased with the generosity of the community," Spilman said. "Everybody in the room had bought a ticket. Some of us had a lot of tickets."

In addition to the raffle drawing, organizers also held silent and live auctions during the event.

More than 150 items were auctioned off, including a number of vacations, a water rafting trip, 50 bottles of wine, and other goods and services.

"The auction was fabulous," Spilman said.
