Milgard Windows pulls its manufacturing out of Marysville

Oct 14 2008

MARYSVILLE — Milgard Windows is the latest employer to lay off local workers.

According to Jennifer Peppin, communications manager of the state Employment Security Department, ESD received a worker adjustment and retraining notice letter from Milgard Windows Oct. 14, announcing the closure of its Marysville facility. This closure will occur over a 10-week period beginning Oct. 24, and will impact 80 non-union workers.

Milgard Windows spokesperson Barbara Motley explained that Milgard Windows is transitioning manufacturing operations from its Marysville facility to its Tacoma plant through the remainder of the year, as a result of "challenging economic times," including the "unprecedented downturn" in the U.S. housing market and softening retail activity. She added that Milgard Windows will maintain a sales and service presence in Marysville.

"Addressing difficult market conditions is always challenging, especially when people's lives are affected," Motley said. "We are dealing responsibly with the affected employees by providing outplacement services and other benefits. These reductions are a result of a change in market conditions and in no way reflect on the quality or dedication of our workforce in Marysville."
