Fine crafts and art at Rexville Grange
Arlington’s salmon queen, Marguerite Goff, has announced her annual Holiday Celebration with more than 25 artists exhibiting at the Rexville Grange in Skagit County Nov. 21-24. Opening night includes live Celtic music by Campbell Road and lots of hors d’oeuvres provided by the artists themselves. Along with Goff, who made the salmon
outside of Arlington City Hall, other Arlington artists participating include Lucinda Van Valkenberg, a woodworker, wool hat maker Nancy Dean, jewelry makers Lisa and Pam Summers, and abstract painter and fish printer Helen Saunders. The Rexville Grange is located at 19299 Rexville Grange Rd., across Fir Island from I-5 exit 230. The show is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 21, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 23, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24.
Kathleen Kemly at Arlington Library’s
Children’s Book Festival
Picture book artist Kathleen Kemly will take kids to a colorful world of make-believe people when she draws funny folks — wee and gigantic — then participants make their own characters to take home, starting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, 135 N. AHS Peter Pan
The Arlington High School production of Peter Pan continues this weekend, with 7 p.m. shows Nov. 21 and 22, with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, Nov. 22. Membership drive
Horse Country Farm Top-Hands Riding Club holds its annual membership drive every November. Kids, teens and adults are welcome to join the club and learn to ride with instructions and plenty of time to practice outside of classes. Tack and equipment included as well as a horse or pony. Russian pianist Alexander Ardakov returns La Conner’s Maple Hall
The La Conner Institute of Performing Arts has announced that Russian pianist Alexander Ardakov returns to La Conner to present a recital 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21. Ardakov studied at the Kuibyshev Musical College under Lydia Muraviova, herself a former student of two famous Moscow professors, Vladimir Belov and Heinrich Neuhaus. While still at the college, he played with the Kuibyshev Symphony Orchestra and also in 1871 was the very important national Kabalevsky young pianists competition. Ardakov moved to Britain in 1991, continuing his career as an international concert pianist. He also taught piano at the Trinity College of Music in London.
At Maple Hall he will perform Schumann’s Forest Scenes, Op. 82, Mr. Ardakov will perform Schumann’s Carnaval, Op. 9. The Schumann pieces will be Tickets are $15 and $17 and can be purchased at the Next Chapter Bookstore at First and Commercial streets, 360-466-2665.
