Stillaguamish River could approach flood level

ARLINGTON — A flood warning for the Stillaguamish River will continue into the night, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Tuesday, Nov. 17, heavy rain had pushed the river's depth to near-flood levels. County reports indicate that parts of the river have reached Phase 2 of the county Surface Water Management Division's four flood phases.
Phase 2 means that minor flooding and road closures could occur, and that the county's emergency operations center opens to monitor flood activity.
The weather service reported that minor flooding could take place in Silvana area, and that standing water may be over parts of the Pioneer Highway.
The Stillaguamish River was at 27.5 feet as of 2 p.m. Tuesday. Forecasters from the weather service originally expected the river to crest during the afternoon, but occasional showers are expected to continue until Wednesday, Nov. 18.
The National Weather Service urges travelers to not drive their vehicles through flooded areas and to be alert to rapid changes in weather.
