Shots fired near Arlington High School causes lock down

Nov 04 2009

ARLINGTON — Arlington High School was locked down for about an hour Wednesday, Nov. 4, after law enforcement responded to gun shots being fired near the school.

City of Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said officers believe that somebody was target shooting near the school, which is located near rural county land where shooting is legal, Banfield said.

"It's hunting season and it's not unusual," Banfield said.

As a precaution, school officials locked down the high school from about 11 a.m. to noon while Arlington Police investigated.

Banfield said there are hundreds of trails behind the school where an individual could have been shooting.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Department is responding to the incident and are trying to track down where the shots came from, she said.
