Cause of Smokey Point fire could soon be determined

SMOKEY POINT — Officials could know by Tuesday, Nov. 3, what caused a two-alarm fire that destroyed at least four businesses.

Snohomish County Fire Marshal Bruce Pulver, who has been investigating a fire that occurred early Monday morning at Smokey Point Plaza, could announce late Tuesday afternoon what officials have determined to be the cause of the blaze, said Chris Badger, Arlington Fire Department spokeswoman.

Five businesses, as well as two unused commercial spaces, were affected in the fire.

Smokey Point Pawn Shop, #1 Teriyaki, Big Foot Music and Loans 4 You were completely destroyed in the fire, Badger said.

A fifth business in the building — H & R Block — also suffered damage as crews use the building as a fire wall to protect the rest of the building, Badger said.

Two currently unoccupied commercial spaces suffered minor damage in the fire, which was extinguished by fire crews from the Arlington and Marysville Fire Departments, Fire District 19 and North County Fire/EMS.

Crews were busy Tuesday sifting through the remains of the commercial plaza's east end.

Officials from the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were also on hand in the investigation due to ammunition that went off during the fire.
