Bothell High
Bothell High's Patrick Ottorbech rushes past the Curtis High defense in last Saturday's win.

Bothell runs over Curtis, 42-3

Nov 17 2008

Led by another phenomenal performance by star running back Patrick Ottorbech, the Bothell High Cougars continued their postseason football run with a 42-3 thrashing of Curtis on Saturday.

Although the game was contested at Curtis High in University Place, in what Bothell head coach Tom Bainter called "enemy territory," the Cougars took the home crowd out of the game early with three scores in the first half, highlighted by a 38-yard touchdown run by Ottorbech in the first quarter.

Ottorbech, who was sick with the flu at game time, stepped up for a career-best 234 yards and four touchdowns on 23 carries. He was taken out of the game midway through the third quarter to get some much-needed rest.

The Cougars dominated Curtis with 403 total yards to Curtis' 185, including an astounding 356 yards rushing.

The Cougars' win sets up a rematch against the Issaquah Eagles, who beat Kentwood in a thriller, 31-28, to advance to the state quarterfinals.

Bothell opened the season with a 24-13 loss to the Eagles at Pop Keeney that stunned the program and the home crowd.

A new team since those forgettable opening weeks to the 2008 campaign, the Cougars are seeking their third-consecutive trip to the class 4A championship game — they lost both games — to prove that the third time is the charm.

The 4A state quarterfinal game will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday at Issaquah.
