Eagles’ volleyballers sweep three matches

It was a stunning week for the volleyball ladies of Cedar Park Christian. The Eagles won all three matches, 3-0, against University Prep, Bellevue Christian and Bush.

Against Bellevue Christian last Wednesday, Candice Whipple and Brittany Kragerud had nine kills each.

During Friday’s game against Bush, freshmen Mattie Shelford and Kayla Zacharias, who delivered nine kills, were impressive, along with sophomore middle hitter Cyndee Dufenhorst.

Senior Tiffany Stumpf stole the spotlight with 65 assists last week.

Boys soccer

Cedar Park boys soccer played to a 1-1 draw against Seattle Academy Sept. 23.

Head coach Ken Kerr said the Eagles “dominated and should have won.” Cedar Park’s Darrel Holmquist scored first in the ninth minute off an assist from Evan Nelson and put the opposing team on its heels. Seattle Academy scored for a finishing tie in the 54th minute.

On Sept. 26, the Eagles suffered their first loss of the season, 2-1, against University Prep. Despite two back-to-back goals by U Prep in the 12th and 29th minutes, Cedar Park persisted and scored its only goal of the match in the 57th minute by Nick Kunnanz off an assist from Josh Moore.

Girls soccer

Cedar Park played a heart-stopping match Sept. 22 against University Prep and reined in a 1-0 victory. A 0-0 score remained until the last 60 seconds of the second half when the Eagles’ Ryan Miller scored the winning goal.

The second match of the week proved unfortunate when the girls took on Bush. Cedar Park kept motivated, even though Bush scored in the first five minutes and notched the 1-0 victory.

Cross country

Last Tuesday at Kelsey Creek, Cedar Park’s boys cross-country team came in fourth place with an average time of 20:21.22. In the 5,000 meters, junior Ethan Dill took first place with a time of 19:42.10, while senior Makenna Landes ran a 26:12.00.

On Saturday’s meet in Shoreline, Cedar Park came in fifth place. One of only two girls participating was sophomore Brook Milliken, who took 13th place with a time of 25.15.3 in the 5K.

Football

Cedar Park’s Jacob Simmons had 164 all-purpose yards, including 12 rushes for 84 yards, but Cascade Christian defeated the Eagles, 49-7, last Saturday.

Connor Mishelanie scored the Eagles’ lone touchdown and had one carry for 23 yards and three receptions for 28 yards.

Quarterback Niles McClure was 3-for-6 passing for 56 yards and one TD.

On defense, Austin Donnel had five tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble; Josh Starbard had four tackles and one sack; and Marc Iancu had five tackles and one fumble recovery.
