Bothell workers did a fine job

A standing ovation is in order for Bothell’s handling of the recent snowstorm. I was amazed how quickly and thoroughly the city’s team dealt with the tons of snow and ice on the roadways. The planners did an awesome job of making sure the money and resources were in place to deal with such a disaster, and the crews working the various trucks, plows and sanders were on top of the situation from the start.

I live in a cul-de-sac (not a priority area), but on at least four separate occasions, city crews were on the street in front of our house. The morning after the initial storm, somebody from the Parks Department rolled in, with a pickup truck that had been outfitted with a small plow. Later, we had a crew roll in at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. These guys were amazing.

All of the problem hills were quickly targeted. The two high-traffic streets on either side of Pop Keeney, for example, were continuously kept completely clear. I noticed a huge difference when I traveled to visit family outside of Bothell; days later, they still had numerous streets covered in snow and ice, with cars sliding out of control.

Not sure if anybody will be able to pull up the exact numbers, but I’d be willing to bet that during that hectic week, there were a lot fewer fender benders in Bothell than in any of the surrounding communities. And for that, we owe the planners and crews a big thank you.
