Life isn't always pretty, but we can try to make it better / Editor's Notebook

It could happen anywhere -- in our seemingly safe neighborhoods or welcoming downtown streets.

People often say they can't wait to read the police blotter in our paper, but it's not exactly a pleasure for us to assemble each week. Some things that allegedly happen in our area put folks in harm's way and can end up scarring people -- physically or emotionally -- for life.

We don't always make the right decisions, but when it comes to our sacred lives, people should think before they act. What may seem like something harmless can wind up sending someone to the hospital ... or worse.

It may be a cliche, but trying to get along with each other is the key to success in life. It won't always happen -- or ever occur -- but we can give it a shot anyway.

Construction zone

On a positive note, it's nice to see progress happening in front of our eyes as we walk or drive through parts of Bothell and Kenmore.

The new Kenmore City Hall construction is shaping up nicely and city officials will soon be residing in an area that is slated to be a community hub in the future.

On the Bothell side, State Route 522 redevelopment is on the horizon, and the hard-hatted workers are currently set up at Pop Keeney Field to redesign that area with a new parking lot, locker rooms, a covered grandstand and more.

Sometimes, it seems that things move slowly before coming to fruition, but it's all usually worth the wait.

Winter sports wind down

So here we are, state basketball time and we've got one team left: Cedar Park Christian's girls at the 1A tourney March 3-6 in Yakima.

I spent some time with the Eagles last week and was inspired by their drive to put their team back on the map after its last state appearance in 2004.

They definitely have the will to win, but also to possess a positive attitude day in and day out, win or lose. In this case it's win, and I'm sure they'll make us proud this week.
