Bothell professor wins ethics prize

A professor of nursing at the University of Washington, Bothell for more than 15 years, Carol Leppa received the 2009 Ethics and Human Rights Award April 30 at the 82nd Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA) Biennial Convention in Seattle.
The award is giving in recognition of excellence in supporting major ethical and human-rights issues and recognizes Leppa’s service and assistance to nurses and the nursing profession.
Leppa has been active in the WSNA, serving for many years on the Legislative and Health Policy Council and is a past president of the King County Nurses Association (KCNA.) Additionally, she served on the UW Advisory Board for the International Human Rights Education and Research Network.
“She clearly has engaged in activities supporting ethical and human-rights issues in Washington state and has received community recognition and support for her efforts,” Mary Baroni, director of nursing for UW-Bothell, said of Leppa.
Leppa previously was named the KCNA Nurse of the Year and received the KCNA Shining Star Award in 2005. She is a Fellow of the University of Washington Teaching Academy and received a UW Distinguished Teaching Award in 1998.
