Spiral Genetics wins entrepreneurial competition

Jun 22 2009

The University of Washington, Bothell has announced the winners of its eighth annual “Hell Night,” a student entrepreneurial competition.

This year’s winner is Spiral Genetics, composed of UW-Bothell students Becky Drees, Steven Klein, Adina Manugbat, Morgan Hellar, Jack Davis, Don Hjelte and Irina Velikovick.

The team proposed a facility, Spiral Genetics, that has informative, individualized genetic testing that allows for personal information and user-friendly reports on disease risks, ancestry and personal characteristics that could be harmful to the client.

Following the competition, the team presented their idea to Invest Northwest and was invited to present before Accelerator, which is a privately held biotechnology investment company located on Lake Union.

Started in 2001, “Hell Night” began as part of the business program’s Entrepreneur Seminar offered once a year on campus.
