There will be a recount in the Port Orchard City Council race between incumbent Carolyn Powers and challenger Cindy Lucarelli, according to information supplied by the Kitsap County Auditor on Thursday.

The latest numbers show Powers leading Lucarelli by 10 votes, or .41 percent. Any result is less than .5 percent apart triggers an automatic machine recount, while a .25 percent margin requires a hand recount — both at county expense.

Auditor Walt Washington said there are still about 300 votes outstanding due to signature anomalies, but it was uncertain how many of these would be counted by the deadline, which is 5 p.m. Nov. 23.

The certification will take place at 8 a.m. Nov. 24 at the Auditor’s Office, and is open to the public.

Lucarelli said on Thursday she was excited by the news.

"I had hoped for something like this but didn't count on it because I didn't want to be disappointed," she said.
