Nov 05 2009

Five unauthorized personnel, claiming to belong to an anti-war protest group, were apprehended by security personnel after cutting through three security fences at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor at about 6 a.m., Nov. 2.

“Everyone should know that public safety and security are paramount,” said Rear Adm. James Symonds, commander, Navy Region Northwest. “I encourage everyone to remain vigilant in their duties.”

The intruders were apprehended in accordance with standing security procedures for incidents of this nature, and were turned over to Naval Criminal Investigative Service. There were no reported injuries.

All five were cited and released. The incident is under investigation.
