October 7, 2009 · Updated 11:34 AM
Kent Fire crews were dispatched to the Waterford Apartments, just north of downtown Kent, at 8:31 p.m. Tuesday. On their arrival crews found smoke and flames from the top floor of the three story apartment building and upgraded the call to a “working fire” or confirmed fire.
Quick action by the first arriving engine company knocked down the fire in a matter of minutes and thus limited the damage caused to the structure. The bulk of the damage was to the exterior siding, the top of the stair well and the attic area above the end unit. The unit that was most involved suffered some smoke and water damage, but no significant damage from direct flame impingement.
The cause of this fire is still undetermined at this time. The estimated damages are in the range of $50,000.
Fortunately no one was injured in the incident. However, residents in the damaged unit will be displaced for some time while repairs are made their apartment.
