UPCOMING FLOOD MEETINGS - KNOW YOUR FLOOD RISK

South county business owners can hear the latest on preparing for possible Green River flooding this winter, at an Emergency Preparedness Symposium from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the ShoWare Center in Kent.
The event is hosted by the Kent, Auburn Area, Renton and Southwest King County chambers of commerce.
Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Puget Sound Energy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Washington State Business Continuity Planning are scheduled to make presentations.
Attendees can join breakout sessions during the symposium with representatives from the cities of Kent, Auburn, Renton and Tukwila.

• Oct. 3, Oct. 8: "Are You Flood Ready?", ShoWare Center
Residents and business owners in the Green River Valley can learn about how to protect themselves and their property this winter from potential flooding at public meetings Oct. 3 and Oct. 8 at the ShoWare Center, 625 W. James St., in Kent.
Kent city officials will host the meetings from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 3 and from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 8.
Topics to be addressed
• An update by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regarding damage assessment at the dam, operation changes and possible river impacts.
• King County Flood Warning Center operations, enhanced response activities and what residents can do to stay informed.
• The current status of emergency coordination plans and resident notification by Kent Emergency Management.
• The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will provide the facts about flood insurance and resources available to residents and businesses to protect themselves and their property.
Each meeting will start with a 30-minute open house, followed by presentations and close with a 30-minute question and answer session.
Representatives from the cities of Auburn, Renton and Tukwila also will be on hand to answer questions.
