City of Renton engineers are keeping an anxious eye on the bridges over the Cedar River in downtown Renton, battered by near-record flood waters and hammered by massive logs washed downriver. One such logjam is stuck under the Williams Avenue bridge and the city is waiting for the level of the river to drop so officials can inspect for damage and then remove the logs. The storm hit Wednesday, although Renton's was spared the brunt of the rainfall because of the Olympics' rain shadow. However, sharply rising temperatures in the Cascades caused a rapid snowmelt, and, coupled with the Pineapple Express, sent a crest of water toward Renton not seen since the record storm of November 1990.
