Redmond Town Center retailers go 'green' for holidays

Dreaming of a “Green Christmas?”
We’re not just talking about a lack of snow — which frankly, suits us fine. We mean environmentally friendly, sustainable, organic, fair trade and socially conscious.
“In a time when wallets are tightened and there is an increased focus on ‘going green’ and environmental sustainability, retailers at Redmond Town Center are excited about offering green products to consumers, as well as upholding their corporate responsibilities of green living,” said Christina Henning, senior marketing manager for the Town Center. “Recycling is not just about ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ — it’s become a way of life that seemingly has become habit overnight.”
She added, “In addition to our retailers’ efforts, Redmond Town Center is proud to offer the American Express Give Green Gift Card, in which 70 cents from the purchase of each card is donated to American Forests and each card purchase generates a donation equivalent to the cost of planting a tree.”

• AT & T Wireless has an AT & T Reuse & Recyle program for recycling wireless phones, PDAs, batteries and accessories.
• Bath & Body Works promotes energy-saving solutions like using its candles.
• The Body Shop conducts no animal testing and supports volunteerism in the community.
• Cartridge World is providing consumers and businesses with an alternative to reduce the impact of the millions of ink cartridges that are thrown away and end up in landfills each year.
• Cost Plus World Market sells organic and fair trade products.
• Eddie Bauer sells some clothing and shoes made of organic materials.
• Franklin Covey sells paper composed of recycled materials.
• GAP supports sustainability, energy conversation, cotton/sustainable design and waste reduction.
• Gene Juarez sells all-natural skin care products.
• Learning Quest Toys sells “Plantoys,” a line of chemical-free children’s toys made of rubber tree materials, painted using vegetable dye.
• Lucy sells some clothing made of 100 percent organic cotton.
• Macy’s sells Nike Live Strong apparel with 100 percent of the profits going to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
• Redmond Marriott Town Center has received awards for its recycling program.
• REI sells bikes as an alternative form of transportation, sells eco-friendly recreational gear, clothing, footwear, etc. and the company reduces use of chemical-based products.
• Petco offers a variety of all-natural pet products.
• Starbucks works on a daily basis with employees, suppliers, farmers and others to create a sustainable approach to coffee production. The company also supports community and environmental organizations and offers free used coffee grounds for garden mulch.
• Tully’s supports composting and offers re-loadable gift cards to reduce waste.
• Victoria’s Secret sells specialty undergarments made of organic materials and sells shirts and totes with eco-friendly messages.
• Vitamin World sells organic supplements and oils for health and beauty.
