Accident causes major backups on I-405, SR 167, surface streets Wednesday

(CORRECTION: The accident happened on Wednesday, not Tuesday.)

A collision on the Interstate 405 off-ramp to the Maple Valley Highway (State Route 169) is causing large traffic backups in the Renton area late Wednesday afternoon.

The impact is being felt on the freeway, State Route 169, northbound State Route 167 and surface streets near the Renton Community Center.

Details of the accident weren't immediately available. The Renton Police Department is investigating; numerous Renton officers have been called in to assist with traffic control.

The Washington State Patrol has responded, along with the state's Incident Response Team.
