May 4, 2012 · 5:06 PM

A 54-year-old Renton man has died of the injuries he suffered early Tuesday morning in an apparent hit-and-run accident in the Highlands.

Oscar Stevens died at Harborview Medical Center of injuries that had been described as life-threatening.

The King County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death.

Renton Police received multiple 911 calls at about 5:50 a.m. Tuesday about a man laying on the side of Sunset Boulevard Northeast near its intersection with Hoquiam Avenue Northeast.

Investigators have spoken with witnesses who saw Stevens laying on the ground, but not to anyone who actually witnessed the accident.

Officer Ralph Hyett, a traffic investigator, said the autopsy should answer  how Stevens died. Investigators also have spoken with friends and family about Stevens' activities that morning.

Renton Police are asking that anyone who may have seen Stevens prior to the arrival of officers at the accident scene call 425-430-7500 and refer to case 12-4424.
