Cougar Creek Elementary School teacher Holly Burtt and her first-grade class presented 14 hand-sewn “friendship paw” quilts to military families of students from their school at the end of the school year. Stephanie Davis, at far right, designed and helped the students sew the quilts. Amid the patriotic artwork, flags and banners,and songs, and writings of appreciation by students there were also tears of thankfulness on both parts, said Burtt. “We are proud of the men and women who serve our country. We realize that many families demonstrate bravery, endurance and sacrifice during a parent’s absence. We hope that when the families use their quilts, they will remember that we honor them,” Burtt said.
