Heritage vs. South Kitsap: First meeting.
Last week: Heritage lost 33-7 against Skyview.
Overview: It all begins with Grayson, who is regarded as one of the top senior quarterbacks in the state along with Jake Heaps (Skyline) and Connor Halliday (Ferris). Grayson is a dual-threat quarterback who has completed 211 of 286 passes for 2,517 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also has rushed for 874 yards. Grayson has plenty of options in the passing game as Hatchett, Lyons and Van Aalst for 1,948 receiving yards. But the Timberwolves have needed those offensive options to keep up with their opponents. Heritage, which was missing nine players because of illness or injury last week, has allowed an average of 31.1 points per game. In a nonleague game against Union, which played for the Class 3A state championship last year, the Timberwolves lost 56-13 on Sept. 25. Heritage never has advanced to the state playoffs. The 4A GSHL generally is not regarded as one of the better big-school leagues in the state. Skyview, which lost in the first round against Puyallup last year, is the only league team to advance to state the last two seasons. Among the other four league members, Evergreen last advanced when it won a state title in 2004. Kelso and Mountain View also made their most recent state appearances five years ago, while Battle Ground has not been there since 1979.
