SK preps 5-17
May 16 2006
Renard Williams, Cedric Carter and Angela Pappuleas are saving their best for last and are now just one step away from the Class 4A state track and field meet after posting qualifying times and distances in Saturdays Narrows League Championships held at South Kitsap High School.
The trio leads a small group of SK athletes who move on to this weekends West Central/Southwest meet at Mount Tahoma. From there, the top eight placers in each event qualify for the state meet May 26-27 in Pasco.
Williams, Carter and Pappuleas will participate in two events each Saturday, while Alegra Waldron, Lindsey Porter, Jessica Cousins, Trevor Boaz, Devlon Miller and Brian Bayly advanced in one event.
South also qualified in the 400- and 1,600-meter relays.
The South boys finished fifth as a team, scoring 47 points, while the girls scored 19 points and tied for 11th place.
Williams won the shot put Thursday and qualified in the discus on Saturday with a personal best throw of 152 feet, 7 inches to lead the group. He was the only South Kitsap athlete to win an event.
Carter was second in the 100-meter with a time of 11.09 and placed seventh in the 200 after pulling up with a strained hamstring.
His status for Saturdays WCD meet is questionable.
Pappuleas qualified in both hurdle events, placing fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 300.

SK sends three golfers to state meet: Joel Schenfeld fired rounds of 75 and 74 last week to qualify for next weeks Class 4A state boys golf tournament, while Kate Clark and Stephanie Davison will represent South at the girls tournament after all three wrapped up play in the Narrows League Tournament at Lake Spanaway Golf Course Friday.
Schenfeld, a junior who missed qualifying for state last year by a single stroke, qualified comfortably with a 5-over-par total of 149 that left him tied for sixth place and five strokes ahead of the cut.
But this year was teammate Kenneth Eisenhuts turn to fall a stroke short after he carded rounds of 75-80 and just missed with a total of 155.
Davison finished eighth in the girls tournament after rounds of 90-86 while Clark qualified right on the number after rounds of 95-92.
Both state tournaments will be played May 23-24 in Spokane.
The boys will play Qualchan Golf Course while the girls tour Hangman Valley.
