Angel’s description of Simpson’s temper an exaggeration
May 14 2009
As members of the House Local Government Committee, on which 26th Distrct Rep. Jan Angel (R-Port Orchard) serves as ranking Republican, we read with some puzzlement an article in which it is suggested Rep. Angel had to tread lightly around our chairman, Rep. Geoff Simpson, because of his alleged temper. (“Angel finishes first legislative session, opens local office,” May 1)
Rep. Angel clearly had a strong partisan position, which might try the patience of members of the other party. However, we never observed our chair, or any other member, treat Rep. Angel with anything other than courtesy.
The portrayal in your paper that she somehow had to tread carefully around Rep. Simpson does not reflect the manner in which the business of the committee was conducted and the courtesies he extended to Rep. Angel and other members of the minority party on the committee.
At the end of session, she thanked him for the manner in which he ran the committee.
