Businesses are being taxed out of existence

It is with great relief that I find an individual capable of understanding economics with a background in journalism.

Independent columnist Bob Meadows (“Smaller-than-hoped-for raises aren’t cuts,” Feb. 26) has a deep understanding of the push and pull of the business environment and how tax, revenue and business decisions play out in the real world.

I was born and raised in the Northwest and fear that I will be driven to move to some other state or nation in order to keep my job as my company moves to avoid increasing our costs because we cannot pass on these costs to our customers while continuing to stay profitable and competitive in the world markets.

This is not idle speculation. We have seen many businesses move operations outside of the state taking valuable jobs with them.

Government must understand that it competes just like a business to attract and keep high quality, high paying jobs.

Let’s not keep making the mistakes of the past.
