Burned vehicle found in Sunnyslope brush fire

A three-acre brush fire was burning Monday afternoon near the 5000 block of Old Clifton Road, according to South Kitsap Fire and Rescue.
Duty Chief Lt. Glenn Pappuleas said there have been no injuries reported in the fire, although “there was a burned-up vehicle in the midst.” Pappuleas said no homes are threatened, but he estimated that fire crews — both from SKFR and Department of Natural Resources — would be on-scene for “several more hours putting out hotspots.”
He said the area was full of dry brush, and the hot weather — he reported it was 93 degrees where he was standing — was not helping firefighters.
He said the call reporting the fire was made shortly before 1 p.m. Aug. 3 by someone who “heard an explosion,” but officials have not determined a cause for the fire yet.
The fire was in rough terrain near a power line access road off Old Clifton Road on DNR land.
On Tuesday, SKFR said that DNR crews took over the fire response and clean-up, and that the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
The latest estimate is that three acres burned.
