Kitsap BlueJackets still winless

Jun 21 2008

So far the road hasn’t been any kinder to the Kitsap BlueJackets.

After getting swept by Corvallis (Ore.) last weekend to open the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League season, the BlueJackets (0-6 overall, 0-5 in WCCBL play) remained winless after falling 7-2 Tuesday and 9-4 Wednesday against the Wenatchee AppleSox (4-1 overall).

In Tuesday’s loss to Wenatchee, the Jackets held an early 1-0 lead when first baseman Bucky Aona took hold of an Owen Jones offering, driving the pitch out for his first homer of the season.

The lead didn’t stick however, as the AppleSox jumped all over Kitsap starter Chad Wagner (a Sequim High School product) for six runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings. Wagner didn’t get much help defensively however, as the Jackets committed four errors.

Aona finished 1 for 3 with two runs and his solo shot, while Brandon Decker was 3 for 5.

In Wednesday’s game, Wenatchee never gave the BlueJackets a chance, torching starter Alec Reichle for five runs (four earned) on six hits in one inning. James Douglas didn’t fare much better, with three runs scoring off five hits in his inning of work. Sean Greer eventually settled things down, lasting five innings while allowing just one run.

Offensively, Kitsap couldn’t get on track, scoring three runs in the eighth inning to cut the deficit to its 9-4 finale.

Central Kitsap product Aaron Johnson finished 2 for 4 in the game, driving in three runs. Kitsap’s Brian Heere went 2 for 2 with two runs. Both hit doubles.

Kitsap wrapped up the series with Wenatchee last night, but results were unavailable at press time.
