Yankees fan chases 'disrespectful' Red Sox supporter

Oct 01 2009

A 22-year-old man called police Sept. 25 reporting that someone tried to stab him. He said the man was chasing his friend near Woodlands Elementary School in East Bremerton, according to a Kitsap County Sheriff's Office report.

The man told a deputy he and his 21-year-old friend were at the Golden Mum Restaurant and Lounge on Silver Pine Drive in East Bremerton around 11:30 p.m. and the suspect was sitting near them.

The 32-year-old East Bremerton man was wearing a New York Yankees shirt and the conversation turned to baseball. The 21-year-old told the 32-year-old he is a Boston Red Sox fan. The Yankees fan then pulled a knife out of his pocket and held it towards them.

The two young men walked outside and the suspect then came running in their direction. The two men split up and the suspect chased the 21-year-old down Central Valley Road.

The 32-year-old told a deputy he chased one of the men for "being disrespectful," according to the police report.

The man was arrested and booked into jail for second-degree assault. He was later released.
