Crematorium hearing could be delayed

The latest hearing regarding the proposed crematorium in the Navy Yard City neighborhood in Bremerton could be delayed for two weeks if a request for a continuance is granted by the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners.
The Commissioners will make a decision on the continuance at 10 a.m. on Monday at their regularly scheduled meeting, said Jennifer Forbes, an attorney in the Kitsap County Prosecutors Office.
Ron Templeton, the attorney representing the neighbors, filed for a continuance of the hearing because of a scheduling conflict.
In my 28 years of practicing law, Ive never had another lawyer not agree to a continuance because of a scheduling conflict, Templeton said.
However, the attorney representing the Kass family filed a written objection by Wednesdays deadline, pushing the request to the Commissioners.
If the continuance is granted, Templeton said it probably be until the Commissioners March 14 meeting.
The opposition to the crematory began last summer, when neighbors discovered that a crematorium was being built at the corner of Charlotte and G Street by the Kass Funeral Home in Bainbridge Island.
