Vikings take No. 2 seed going into districts
The North Kitsap girls soccer team fell to Capital High, 2-1 Tuesday, giving the Vikings the No. 2 seed from the Olympic League/Western Cascasde Conference subdistrict going into the West Central District III playoffs. The loss was only the second of the season for the Vikings.
“I think we took it hard, because we realized that we allowed Capital to take us out of our game. They were very aggressive and physical,” NK Head Coach Dee Taylor said.
North Kitsap’s only other loss this year was a 5-2 defeat at the hands of non-league rival Bainbridge in the second game of the season.
The Vikings will face Auburn Mountainview, the No. 6 seed from the South Puget Sound/Seamount conference in the first round, at 3 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma.
“I think the key is going to be understanding that the play is going to be more physical than we’re used to, and responding to that,” Taylor said of Saturday’s game.
Taylor said his team played like they were nervous during Tuesday’s loss, and will need to make some adjustments before the next game.
“They just didn’t want to make any mistakes, instead of playing through those mistakes. We just played tentative,” Taylor said. “But it was really a fantastic learning opportunity that I think we can apply to Saturday’s game. That is, you’ve got to play with composure and intensity.”
With a win on Saturday, the Vikings will play again Nov. 10. A loss would end North Kitsap’s season.
“There are no more easy games,” Taylor said.
Bucs brace for playoffs

Vikings, Bucs move on to districts
The North Kitsap and Kingston high school girls swim teams will advance to the West Central District III meet Saturday at Olympic High School in Silverdale. Competition begins at 9 a.m.
At the Oct. 30 Olympic League divisional meet, Kingston’s Katie Fisher, Lily Hartman and Jessie Gates took the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly, silver division. North Kitsap’s Sarah Waderich and Kylie Morlan finished first and second in the 50-yard freestyle, gold division. North Kitsap’s 200-yard freestyle relay team, consisting of Bethany Aban, Leena Adamian, Jordan Anderson and Alyssa Villarreal, took first place overall.
TENNIS
KHS sends three to districts
Three boys tennis players from Kingston High School qualified for the 2A West Central District III tournament to be played next spring. Richie Sander and Trevor Shuey qualified as doubles partners after defeating David Lopes and Michael Lee of Sequim, 6-0, 7-6. Loren Klemesrud qualified as an alternate in singles. Klemesrud fell to David Richards of Sequim, 6-3, 7-6, and Benny Ryweck of Port Townsend, 6-1, 6-3.

Buccaneers fall to Bulldogs
The Kingston High football team lost their final game of the season at home Wednesday to North Mason, 46-14.
“The kids played hard, and we played them tough for the first part of the first half, but then things got away from us,” Head Coach Dan Novick said.
