Hood Canal Bridge: Ongoing closure coverage and resources

The Hood Canal Bridge closed at 12:01 a.m. May 1, beginning six weeks of work to replace rusted pontoons and trusses. The span is the single connector between Kitsap and Jefferson counties, and at 1.5 miles long is the longest floating bridge over salt water in the world.

The Washington State Department of Transportation is spending nearly $500 million to make the bridge wider and more reliable for the 15,000-20,000 cars that cross it daily.
