NKSD to discuss stadium lights

The installation of lights at the Kingston High School practice fields is once again a topic of discussion. The North Kitsap School District board of directors will address the public's interest in installing lights at Kingston during their regular board meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the district offices.

The Kingston community has been vocal in its united request for the installation of lights at the school's artificial turf field for practice purposes. It also contends Kingston athletes are getting the short side of equal access at North Kitsap Stadium, which is supposed to be a shared facility for Kingston and North Kitsap high schools.

While North has seven lit practice fields from which to choose, Kingston does not have any.

In addition, while the North Kitsap Stadium is a shared facility, North's mascot, the Viking, is ever present in the purple and gold decorated stadium, while the Kingston Buccaneer has yet to make an appearance. This is the schools' second year of sharing the facility.

In addition to addressing the shared stadium issue, the board members will go behind closed doors at 6 p.m. to review Superintendent Rick Jones' evaluation. Personnel issues such as evaluations are one of the three reasons the board members are allowed to converse in private, although no votes can be taken outside the public view.

Public comments are taken at every meeting.

SCAC will meet Jan. 8

The Suquamish Citizen Advisory Committee will meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Suquamish Elementary School library. Toni Fuller from Kitsap County Solid Waste will be the guest speaker. The group also will elect new board members and have a conversation on Kitsap County code compliance.
