Happy trails
As of this month’s paper, I have written articles for the Kingston Community News for exactly one year. And through that whole year, Kingston High School has experienced lots of firsts, from the first day of school to the first football game, the first homecoming dance, the first state win, the first prom and its very first graduation.
Seeing as now we have made it through our firsts quite well, are you ready for seconds Kingston? This upcoming year, I know, will be even better. There will be new classes, new kids, new sports seasons and new successes.
Unfortunately, this will all be without me. In just a few weeks, I will be moving across the country, 3,222 miles away to be exact, to Florida. But seeing as this is MY home, I will be back to visit lots and will keep up to date with all of the sports and news. So since this is my last article I have a little tribute to my own class of 2011, whom I will be missing very much.
Sophomore power
So last year as a freshman, my class had way more confidence than most underclassmen usually do. This year, as sophomores, we will have much, much more, but this is for good reason, seeing as how we have quite a few threats in this particular class.
Some athletes to watch out for this upcoming athletic season: Tucker Bowman, receiver for varsity football. Last year he was one of three freshmen to make the varsity team, and had much more play time than the others. He’s worked hard for this and all summer has been in the weight room and to basically every “not required” practice. In the upcoming year he will definitely set the field on fire.
Rose Bishop, on the varsity cross-country team, last year went from never running more than a few miles at one time to rising all the way up to state competitions. Although our school has quite a few good runners and will be getting even more in the upcoming year, none of them built themselves to be the runner in the way she has. Instead of being born a state runner, she made herself improve to be one and works harder than most athletes usually do for a high school sport. I expect new records from her.
I wish all the sports, all the athletes and all the competitors good luck in the next year, and the next and so on. Tryouts start on Aug. 25 for cross-country, girls’ soccer, girls’ swimming, boys’ tennis and volleyball. Football begins Aug. 20. Before participating in any sport though, athletes need to turn in all of the athletic forms including registration, emergency contact and a physical form filled out by a doctor.
Also, congratulations Kingston High School – as of just a few weeks ago your turf field finally got a very nice scoreboard set up.
I won’t say goodbye, because I will be back.
“Defeat may test you; it need not stop you. If at first you don’t succeed, try another way. For every obstacle there is a solution. Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. The greatest mistake is giving up.”
