Deputies nab two men for North Kitsap burglaries

Kitsap County Sheriff's deputies have made two arrests in the recent burglaries in North Kitsap. Two Silverdale men suspected of aiding in the recent string of burglaries targeting the North End are facing felony charges after a Nov. 7 appearance in Kitsap County Superior Court.

Tony Dean Capps, 24, and Corey Michael Smith, 27, were charged with residential burglary, trafficking stolen property and felons in possession of firearms for their alleged roles in burglaries carried out in October and November.

According to Kitsap County Sheriff Office reports, investigators believe the two men were involved in six confirmed residential burglaries, including three homes in Poulsbo and one in Seabeck. KCSO deputies believe Capps and Smith may have been involved in four other residential burglaries.

Value of recovered property so far exceeds $25,000. Identification of other victims is expected as more property is recovered, said KCSO media relations officer Deputy Scott Wilson.

Capps, whose recommended bail was initially $100,000, was reduced in court by Judge M. Karlynn Haberly to $5,000 with the additional $5,000 for DUI. Capps posted his total $10,000 bail and left jail the same night, Wilson said.

Smith remained in jail as of press time because of an outstanding arrest warrant for escaping community custody. Smith also faces a forgery charge for attempting to use fake money at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino last week. He is not eligible to post bail. Smith is scheduled to re-appear in court at 9 a.m. Nov. 26.

Deputies obtained descriptions of suspects through continuous investigation. A neighbor of one of the homes burglarized provided deputies with security camera footage of what authorities believed was the vehicle used in the burglaries.

On Nov. 6, Kitsap County Sheriff deputies got a break in the case.

Capps ran a stop sign and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Upon interviewing Capps, other leads developed in the case and Smith was arrested.

At about 2:30 a.m. Friday, detectives received a search warrant for the suspected stash house, located on the 14100 block of Thomas Drive NW in Silverdale.

Items stolen included flat-screen TVs, video games and systems, digital cameras, jewelry, rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammunition, 40-piece record album collection, CDs and other miscellaneous items.
