What’s Up for First Friday

THE NIGHT SKY at BAC 151 Winslow Way

They’ve done it again. The minds on the board of Bainbridge Arts and Crafts have come up with yet another simple, but brilliant, theme to unlock the muse box for its artists.

Inspired by the dark time of year, this month BAC features The Night Sky. They sent out word to its landscape-minded artists across mediums for another likely widely diverse show both in media and ideas.

Paintings and collage, digital art, photography, assemblages and beyond focused, on that feeling of staring up at the uncountable expanse of stars, or looking out at the neon-lit glow of the city at night.

The theme is particularly, and widely, inspiring.

“It’s a twinkling wonderland,” as BAC artist Deborah Peek writes in a poem inspired both by the show and the sky. “When I look into the night sky, I become that child again lost in imagination amazed by its beauty, its complexities and its mysteries.”

“I truly believe that as an artist I could be quite content to spend the rest of my days only creating new works based on the sky alone and never run out of fresh ideas,” another BAC artist Gennielynn Martin said. She’s created four works inspired by the night sky alone. Falling stars and dream-like backdrops. It’s the perfect setting for her whimsically realistic collage work.

The same goes for Peek’s vintage-made, dream-like assemblage art.

And that’s just two of about a dozen artists who’ll be in the show. Some of which will be on hand at the First Friday Art Walk 6-8 p.m. Jan. 2, with activities throughout the Winslow district.

IN BREMERTON

Collective Visions Gallery (331 Pacific Ave.) will be holding over its December exhibits for the First Friday of 2009 through Jan. 17, at which time they’ll be closing the gallery in preparation for the second annual statewide CVG Show, which takes place in February.
