Kingston Country Christmas: From dawn to dusk
Nov 26 2008
Kingston’s Country Christmas has events going on from dusk to dawn Dec. 13, from early morning pancakes at Wolfle Elementary to the tree lighting at Mike Wallace park with bonfires to warm up by, wrapped up with a lively concert at Redeemer Methodist Church. Kingston’s newest event, the holiday home tour, takes place that day as well (see article below). Get out and enjoy this place we call home.
Santa’s Breakfast at Wolfle
The annual Santa’s Breakfast at Wolfle Elementary School on Bond Road in Kingston takes place 8:30-11:30 a.m. Dec. 13, offered by the Wolfle PTA.
The menu includes eggs, pancakes, ham, juice, coffee and tea. Cost is $4 per person or $15 for a family of four. Pictures with Santa are provided for a small fee and printed on-site. There will also be a silent auction, door prizes and raffle of themed baskets created by Wolfle classes. All proceeds benefit the PTA and Wolfle students. For more information, call Wendy Newton at (360) 297-5098.
Man in red ready to listen
The Greater Kingston Kiwanis club will host Santa Claus for the day, who’ll be seated in his throne 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take gift wishes from children on Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Kingston Community Center. Photos with Santa to capture the moment will also be available.
Art walk on West Kingston
Two art studios and the Kingston Art Gallery celebrate Kingston Country Christmas with open houses along West Kingston Road. Downtown at Cleo’s Landing on Highway 104, the Kingston Art Gallery features its 19 artists from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with a third anniversary celebration, “Winter Wonders,” at Second Saturday Gallery Night 5-8 p.m. Enjoy refreshments, holiday music from a Seattle string trio and fine arts. One block west at West First Street, Betty Claire opens her Earthdance Pottery showroom and studio from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Up West Kingston Road another block is Marilyn Liden Bode’s printmaking studio on the beach where six artists will display work 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Watercraft wonderland
In conjunction with all that’s going on for Christmas, the Kingston Cove Yacht Club will be hosting a Christmas boat decorating party and boat parade. All are welcome to join in the fun.
The public is invited to come down to the Port of Kingston’s guest dock, check out decorated boats and come aboard for cookies and hot cocoa during the Kingston Cove Yacht Club’s annual event before and after the tree lighting in Mike Wallace Park.
Weather permitting, boats will head out for a Christmas Cruise and create a parade of lights. For more information, contact the yacht club at (360) 297-3371.
Lighting up the port
At dusk, a North Kitsap Fire & Rescue truck will escort Santa down to Mike Wallace Park at the Port of Kingston marina for the ceremonial lighting of the port’s Christmas tree. There will be small bonfires to cozy up to and keep warm by, plus warm refreshments.
Hometown Band in concert
Local favorite, The Hometown Band, wraps up Country Christmas festivities with a special holiday concert at 7 p.m. at Redeemer United Methodist Church, located on the corner of Parcell and Shorty Campbell roads off Highway 104.
Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
