A coat for the cover charge at the Charleston and an alt country weekend at the Manette fill Kitsap’s docket of rock.

COAT DRIVE AT THE CHUCK w/ Redemption City, Arsenal Way, Beneath All Kaos, Havoc Laden and Courage for a Lion at 7 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Charleston Music Venue, 333 Callow Ave. in Bremerton.

All ages, free with donation of new or slightly used coat, $7 otherwise.

The Charleston Music Venue is very much a place for community.

Not just the all-ages rock show community that comes through its doors to see local, regional and touring bands, but even more so the greater Callow Avenue/Charleston/Bremerton community of which the venue itself is a part.

“The point is getting involved in the community and trying to become an active member,” said Andy O., Charleston show promoter.

Support your community and your community will support you is the thought.

Earlier this summer, the Charleston hosted a food drive show that brought in copious amounts of canned food for Bremerton Foodline. And now they’ve set their sights on a coat drive for those in need this winter.

Any new or gently used coat gets you in free for six local bands: from Redemption City’s rap-rock to grunge metal from Arsenal Way to Beneath All Kaos’ grindcore and more.

Ever since breaking in with listener-voted airplay on the Seattle radio station the Mountain in 2003, The Ian McFeron Band has been a rising tide of sorts in the city’s alternative country/new folk scene.

With the band’s namesake front man drawing comparisons to Bob Dylan and Ryan Adams for both his songwriting ability and work ethic, the band has released a steady stream of albums, culminating with back-to-back sold out shows at the Triple Door for the release of its fourth full-length “Let It Ride” in 2007.

They’ve played Bumbershoot. They’ve played with Patty Griffin, Amos Lee and Sister Hazel. They’ve played the Clearwater Casino. They regularly tour the western United States in a bio tour bus that runs on vegetable oil, akin to Willie Nelson’s ride.

This Friday they come to Manette Saloon to kick off another tour, sharing the stage with Bremerton’s own blue-collar bad boys The Rocky Point All Stars.

Then on Saturday, another hard-working, alt-country band out of Seattle comes to town as the Memphis Radio Kings hit the Manette.
