With gas prices increasing, visit the towns in Kitsap County and enjoy the local sites and sounds. All of us in Port Gamble invite you to wander our quaint town and visit our shops – look for new ones that have opened or take in a festival or two. We have a lot going on for the month of July and look for two new festivals in August – Paddle Kitsap and the Great Peninsula Future Festival.

Trees & Treetures July 6, 1 p.m. Come and learn about the trees and treetures of Kitsap County’s forests. Jim Trainer, a local community forester, will teach about tree and treeture identification, sounds, where they live and their habitat. Following will be a one-hour guided hike through Port Gamble’s Trails. Start in the Port Gamble Conference Room. Event is for all ages. Cost is $15 per person. For reservations, call (360) 297-8074. To learn more about Trainer and his Treez Inc. company, go to www.treezinc.com.

Port Gamble Historic Walking Tour, 1-4 p.m. July 12. Begin at the Port Gamble Historic Boardroom, located on the North side of the General Store building. Enjoy a stroll through Port Gamble narrated by the town’s Museum Curator. Cost is $15 per person; reservations required at (360) 297-8074.

Muddy Paw Dog Agility, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 12. MudPACK (Muddy Paws Agility Club of Kitsap) will host a North American Dog Agility Council-sanctioned trial for dogs of all breeds and mixed breeds at Port Gamble. Dog agility is one of the fastest growing sports in America. A trial demonstrates the ability of the dog and its handler to work under control as a functioning team over obstacles. The obstacles, including jumps, weave poles, teeter-totter, A-frame, tunnels, and dog walk, are grouped into courses for various levels of competition. Pre-registration is required to compete but spectators are welcome. Please be fair to the competitors by keeping children and pets under control.

Olympia Radio Control Association Snipe Race, 10 a.m. July 12 at Port Gamble Uplands Field.

Bear of a Run 8 Miler, 8 a.m. July 13. An eight-mile foot race on the Port Gamble trails. Contact Poulsbo Running for information and registration at (360) 779-8757,

poulsborunning@foxinternet.com or www.rootsrockrun.com

Kathryn Alexander Knitting Workshop, 1-7 p.m. July 23 at The Artful Ewe. Create surface and color with entrelac shapes. For more information, go to www.kathrynalexander.net, and make reservations at (360) 297-3493 or theartfulewe@aol.com.

Kitsap Arts & Crafts Festival, July 25- 27.
