Boys & Girls Club needs volunteers

Dec 29 2008

The North Kitsap Boys & Girls Club is seeking volunteers to help with its program at Kingston Middle School.

“We are looking for very two different types of volunteers for the club. We would like to see some more adults from the community come in and volunteer some time to help with homework or teach a craft or skill to the kids after school, but the real need right now is for community members to volunteer to serve on the advisory group created to keep the club up and running,” said Dan Price, outgoing development director for the club.

After many years of volunteering for the Boys & Girls Club, Price and his family are moving away from Kingston this month, leaving a huge hole in the director support and fundraising for the club.

“While the program director is wonderful working with the kids on an everyday basis, the advisory group is essential for fundraising, promotion and volunteer recruitment. The North Kitsap Boys & Girls Club is completely supported by local service clubs, businesses, individuals and both tribes and there needs to be someone to help coordinate that support,” Price explained.

The Boys and Girls Club operates from 2:45-6 p.m. Monday through Thursday at Kingston Middle School. For $30 a year, the club provides middle school kids a safe place to be after school and offers them many opportunities to participate in activities including homework help, art, movies, jewelry making, carpentry and cooking.

The advisory group meets once a month at Kingston Middle School. Community members interested in providing a positive, safe place for kids are sought. Call Ginny Bell at (360) 638-1263 for more information.
