The Buc Stops Here: Electin heats up Kingston High School

November seemed to fly right through for us Buccaneers. It was a busy month at Kingston High School since the first quarter has ended.

This month, we voted ourselves a new president of the United States, Barack Obama. It was a heated day at Kingston High School as students waited to hear about the electoral votes. During election week, students were wearing Obama or McCain t-shirts or discussing who would be the better president. Obama came out on top, but each candidate gave an amazing speech at the end of the day; McCain with his concession speech and Obama with his victory speech. Each man took the outcome very gracefully and there was much talk about it the following day at KHS.

Thanksgiving was a time for thinking back to when the first settlers stepped onto this land from Europe and had a celebration of thanks for finding this new land. With the Native Americans who had helped us out graciously, celebrating comes naturally to everyone – some celebrating with family or others throwing a party for family and friends.

With the turning of the season and time changes, fall sports are coming to an end and winter sports beginning. Boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, cheerleading (continued from fall sports), gymnastics and wrestling are all looking forward to an exciting season. Good luck to the winter sports teams!

With Christmas coming up, we’re going to start getting into the Christmas frenzy, which includes students making plans for the break from school that comes along with Christmas. You can hear students talk about the snow in the mountains for snowboarding or skiing. Or you hear other plans for spending the break away from home and with other relatives. All Buccaneer students and staff are quite excited about this upcoming break. But not all are loving this cold weather that’s been coming around. We hope to get some nice snow to fall down around this town (and all of us students are hoping for one or two days of school being canceled due to the snow).

The play “Treasure Island” was performed this month with students becoming actors or actresses while certain teachers held the job of directing. The play got great reviews and all were proud to watch the talented group perform.

Before you know it we’ll all be making our New Year’s resolutions. All of the students of KHS wish you a happy holiday!
