With gas prices increasing, visit the towns in Kitsap County and enjoy the local sites and sounds. All of us in Port Gamble invite you to visit and wander our quaint town. Visit our shops and look for new ones that have opened or take in a festival or two.

We are also pleased to welcome the following businesses to Port Gamble, stop in a say hello.

Here are our August events:

Paddle Kitsap Kick-Off, Aug. 1: Kayak from Port Gamble to Poulsbo in a two-day paddle through North Kitsap’s “String of Pearls.” Paddle the ‘pearls’ of North Kitsap communities and help establish a North Kitsap water trail. This spectacular fully supported paddle will be the highlight of your paddling year. Whether it’s a kayak, canoe, rowing, or other human-powered craft, you will enjoy the spectacular natural beauty, challenge of the course, and making new paddling friends. Port Gamble Historic Walking Tour, 1-4 p.m. Aug. 2: Begins at the Port Gamble Historic Boardroom, located on the north side of the general store building. Enjoy a stroll through Port Gamble narrated by the town’s museum curator. Cost is $15 per person; reservations required, (360) 297-8074.

Great Peninsula Future Festival, Aug. 2-3: Times for the event are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Please join us in Port Gamble for this event with a great line-up of music, entertainment and an educational focus on sustainability issues. This is a celebration of life with vaudeville shows by the New Old Time Chautauqua, arts and crafts, ecological solutions, politics, interactive children’s activities, full-scale demonstrations and exhibits of energy alternatives, workshops, good food, a farmers market, storytellers, great music and much more. Port Gamble Garage Sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 9: One man’s castoffs are another man’s treasures. Hunt for your own treasures in this town-wide garage sale. For more information, contact portgamble@orminc.com or (360) 297-8074.

Olympia Radio Control Association Snipe Race, 10 a.m., Aug. 9: This takes place in the Port Gamble uplands field.

Port Gamble 1/2 Marathon, 8 a.m., Aug. 10: A foot race on the Port Gamble trails. Contact Poulsbo Running for more information and registration at poulsborunning@foxinternet.com,

Live Music at Sunday Market, noon-2 p.m., Aug. 10: Reunion performs in the Port Gamble Sunday Market food court.

3rd Annual Maritime Music Festival, 1-9 p.m., Aug. 16: Takes place between The General Store and the Walker-Ames House, and features performances by Hank Cramer, The Bud Bay Buccaneers, The Phinney Ridge Rum Runners, Spanaway Bay and The Black Diamond Pirates. Sunset Cinema, 9 p.m.-ish, Aug. 16: Our outdoor movie series is back! Join us on the lawn just south of The General Store for a classic family adventure movie, TBA. Bring blankets and snacks.
