Olympic extended its win streak to three games by knocking off 10th-ranked North Kitsap 26-24 at Silverdale Stadium Friday.
Junior running back Larry Dixon rushed for 177 yards on 24 carries, while senior Garrett Brown added 149 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. The Trojans are now just two games below .500 (3-5 overall, 3-3 league) after an awful 0-5 start to the season.
North Kitsap (6-2, 4-2) has struggled since an impressive 24-6 win at home against Capital Oct. 17. The Vikings fell to third place in the 3A Olympic/Western League, behind Capital (5-3, 5-1) and Timberline (6-2, 5-1).
A playoff berth is not out of the question for Olympic, though it will need help in the last week of the season. With a win in the season finale — the Homecoming game against Bremerton this Friday — the Trojans would finish 4-3 in league play.
Central Kitsap, meanwhile, is coming together at the right time. The Cougars also have won three straight (5-3, 5-2) and are in sole possession of third place in the Narrows League (five Narrows teams make the playoffs) after a 56-14 road win against Stadium Friday. The team wraps up the regular season and can clinch a playoff berth against Wilson at home on Thursday.
Sixth-ranked Steilacoom (8-0, 5-0) breezed past Klahowya 41-14 Friday, handing the Eagles (3-5, 1-4) another league loss in what's been a disappointing season. No box score was reported.
KSS finishes regular season play at home this Saturday against Eatonville. Kick off is 7 p.m.
