All three area schools off to strong start.

The Central Kitsap Cougars girls soccer team is off to a hot start, blanking Port Angeles Thursday 4-0 and rivals Olympic Wednesday 1-0.

The Trojans also have started strong, however, with a 1-0 win against South Kitsap.

Klahowya was in the mix as well, blanking Eatonville 5-0 in its season opener before topping Port Townsend 3-1 Thursday.

In the CK-Oly battle, the teams were tied until the 17th minute, when Hannah Anderson connected on an assist from Kerstan Anthony. Jaymie Boekennoogen got the shutout for CK in goal.

The Trojans got a shutout from Darrien Dorr on Monday against the Wolves. Audrey Pond’s unassisted goal lifted the Trojans.

As for the Eagles, Katlyn Sargeant, Jordan Dixon and Rebekka Schell all tallied a goal in each game, while Ruthie Hawley and Rocky Winkler tallied additional scores against Eatonville.

Volleyball

Area volleyball teams also got off to a nice start, with CK blanking North Kitsap 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-21) Thursday after going 0-2-1 at the Emerald City Volleyball Invitational last week.

In that tourney, CK fell to Hawaii’s Punahou 25-12, 25-14, before falling to Bellarmine 25-16, 25-19. CK split with host Eastlake 25-22, 26-28.

In the win against NK, Racheal Diehl had a strong all-around game, recording 10 kills and 10 digs.

After Olympic dropped its season opener 3-0 (25-7, 25-18, 25-16) to Bainbridge, the Trojans regrouped and topped South Kitsap 3-2 on Thursday.

After winning the first two games 25-22 and 25-20, the Wolves battled back with 25-17 and 27-25 wins. But Oly held on with a 15-12 fifth set to earn the win. Megan Rainey led Oly with 24 kills.

Klahowya fell to Port Townsed 3-0 on Thursday.
