Sports notices Emerald City Kickoff

The Central Kitsap Cougars football team will open the season as part of the Emerald City Kickoff at Qwest Field in Seattle.

Tickets are available now for the Sept. 6 game, with adult tickets costing $15 and kids (high school and younger) getting in for $10.

CK will take on Hawaii’s Punahou, the preseason No. 1-ranked Hawaiian team.

3-on-3 Tourney

The second annual Silverdale Shootout 3-on-3 basketball tourney is now accepting registrations. The event is Aug. 30-31 and registration is accepted up to the day of the event.

Players of all ages and skill levels can compete in the recreational or competitive divisions. School-aged teams will be grouped by grade, while post-high school hoopsters will group by age ranges (18-24, 25-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 plus). The event also is still looking for sponsors. A variety of sponsorship packages are available to businesses, from a presenting sponsorship to an individual court sponsor. Some event proceeds benefit United Way, CK Food Bank and the Navy Wives Club.

Whale of a run

Registrations are now being accepted for the 2008 Whale of a Run. The Whale of a Run, sponsored by The Doctors Clinic, benefits Hospice of Kitsap County. The races are July 26 during Whaling Days. The 4-mile run, which begins at 8:45 a.m., costs $15 for registrations, while the 1-mile, which begins at 8:50 a.m., is $10. Both increase by $2 for day-of registration. The dashes, which begin at 9:30 a.m., are $2 in advance and $3 day of. Registration is available at Kitsap Sports, Silverdale Cyclery and online at www.hospiceofkitsapcounty.org. Paddle Kitsap 2008

Paddle Kitsap 2008 takes place Aug. 1-2, with kayakers going from Port Gamble to Poulsbo. Registration is open now through July 25 and costs $225 per person. That includes a tent site in Kingston for two nights, the shuttle to Port Gamble, two days worth of meals and entertainment, a Paddle Kitsap shirt, maps, guides and boat decal and more.Kayak rentals also are available.
