“It feels good.”

That was the only way Central Kitsap senior Cody Oakes could describe how he felt after CK beat Olympic 78-54 at home Friday.

“That’s probably the last time I’ll face them in any sport,” Oakes said. “To have a game like that, it’s great.”

CK and Oly squared off for the final time in the foreseeable future with league implications, as both will reside in different homes next year with the Trojans joining the newly-formed Olympic League and CK staying in the Narrows.

Fellow senior Shane Coxon, a bench player for CK who scored 5 points in the win, said it was nice to end his career against Oly on a good note as well.

“It’s a perfect ending,” Coxon said. “For the last time CK will face them in league, it’s a perfect ending.”

CK, improving to 10-4 (8-2 in league play), is now tied with Gig Harbor for second place. The loss dropped the Trojans to 2-14 (1-9).

Oly coach Tyson Whitfield, whose Trojans have lost several close games this year, said CK simply shot better than they did the first time around.

“We came with pretty much the same game plan as before, to force JR (Gordon) to his left and (Mike) Simpkins to his right, but they both were hitting from the outside no matter which way you forced them,” Whitfield said.

Gordon led CK with 20 while Simpkins added 18. Oakes chipped in 15.

For Olympic, Chris Maclaren kept the game from getting more open with a 20-point effort of his own.

“He just attacked the basket, which nobody else on my team did,” Whitfield said. “He had a mismatch almost the entire night with someone slower guarding him and he was able to take advantage of that.”

CK coach Tim Fryer said his squad has it’s sights aimed high with the season winding down.

“We were aiming at the second spot,” Fryer said. “But you can scratch that.

“We’re still in the running for first.”
